When reconstructing, renovating or modernising buildings, structural constraints often make it simply impossible to comply literally with the fire safety rules. Once non-compliances with fire safety legislation are identified, we carry out fire risk calculations that objectively assess the real probability of a fire starting and spreading, and its possible consequences. This opens the way to performance-based (engineering) fire safety and to coordinating the design with the supervisory authorities.
Using state-of-the-art fire and evacuation modelling software, we prove that by implementing compensatory measures, the building will achieve a safety level that meets or exceeds regulatory requirements. This makes it possible to legally approve the design, preserve the building's architecture, and avoid expensive, excessive fire safety systems.
